Back to School and Uni – Are Your Jabs Up to Date?

As the new term begins this September, students are returning to classrooms, lecture halls, and shared spaces. With so many people mixing, infections can spread quickly. While coughs and colds are common, missing key vaccinations can put you at risk of more serious illnesses.

Vaccines to check

  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
Two doses give almost complete protection. In some areas, up to 40% of young people are not fully protected. If you’ve missed a dose, you can still catch up.
  • HPV (Human Papillomavirus)
Usually offered in school to boys and girls aged 12–13. It helps protect against cervical cancer and genital warts. If you missed it, you can get it free on the NHS until your 25th birthday.
  • MenACWY (Meningitis A, C, W, Y)
Given in school alongside the “3-in-1” teenage booster. Protects against meningitis and blood poisoning. If you are under 25 and haven’t had it, you can still catch up.
